Hello,
I have a G1 on the way. In the meantime, I had a question about android that I was wondering if anyone had any info about.
Will the android O/S in general be updateable? WIll it have some sort of "live" update service? How about the version of android running on the G1 specifically?
I'm just wondering if all of us early adopters will get to patch-up as android matures, or are we going to have to cook up ROMS like i've had to do with just about every phone I've ever owned, lol!
Any info hard or speculative is appreciated.
Thanks,
~richard
There will be updates, but I'm not sure how they will be performed. The problem with live updates is that they require the phone to be in a pretty low level state, but I think I recall hearing them say on one of the press conference videos that it may be a possibility in the future?
Worst case, you'll connect your phone to the computer via usb and run a rom updater utility.
i assume it will be somewhat liek a PSP flash, download the upgrade to your SD card, run the update while plugged in and hope you dont screw it while its flashing.

And we will cook up a bunch of new rom images for it as well, you can never have 2 many OS choices. I mean it is an HTC boot loader right? I have hope that examining the boot loader on the G1 will allow us to shoe horn the android onto a number of older HTC devices.
interesting.....
All sounds like a plan. Also there could be the possibility of live updates. Similar to the ones you download for updating your mms and internet settings.
