I read somewhere where someone said the G1 will be equipped with SIM STK in the 1.5 update. Anyone have any info on how this works and if its really true? thanks
If by STK you mean SIM Toolkit, this appeared with the 1.1 update here in the UK, and it's worthless. It basically gives you access to a a bunch of stuff you have to pay for, such as horoscopes, music, games, etc, and access to a bunch of stuff you probably already have other ways to access, such as pre-pay topup, balance/allowance, etc.
^ What I want to do is use a dual sim card adapter. But someone said the older version of andriod didn't support the software for the adapter (to switch back and forth). As for the adapter I was looking into the one at hXXXp://www.simXXXore.ch/en/mobile_phone_accessory/HTC/G1.html (remove XXX's), but it has not been tested and probably not fully compatible. Or is there an easier way of going about this? thanks
I'm just wondering why you put XXXs in the URL? Links work fine on the forum...
Anyway, from what I can tell, there are dual SIM card adaptors out there for the G1. I have no idea if they work or not, as I've never had the need to buy one.
A quick search on the this forum show other people with this same question, and the consensus seems to be that the problem is not getting a dual adaptor to work, it's that you can't switch between them easily, as every time you do you have to re-enter your Google username and password, and wait for everything to sync up.
that is what I read and it said that the 1.5 update (cupcake) would allow us to make the switch back and forth. I guess this isn't going to work out unless someone makes an app that would magically make this happen.
Well it may be true that cupcake allows you to switch back and forth more easily. The other threads I refer to are pre-cupcake for most people.
Your best bet is to find someone who's used a dual-SIM in the G1, and find out from them what it's like to use.
