The new cupcake has been discussed quite a bit... adding video to the camera function, adding a2dp (yeah!!!) for stereo bluetooth listening, etc. etc.
One thing not mentioned, or that I haven't seen, is this:
From CNet: "A new API for speech recognition is also included, as is A2DP stereo Bluetooth support."
One thing that really has disappointed me with the G1, and I love it overall, is it's horid voice recognition!
My Blackberry, purhcased two years ago, would have an accuracy rate of over 90%... I could call any contact in my phone book without ever having to touch my Pearl... simply tap the button on the Bluetooth headset, and a pleasant voice would ask me "who do you want to call?"...
Once I said the name, she'd ask "John Smith? Is this correct?"... say yes, and she'd then ask "Which number would you like to call? " Saying Home, work, whatever would initiate the call.
Now, with the G1, the success rate is about 10%! It's AWEFUL... this from the company that gave us Goog 411? Goog 411 is amazing in how accurate it's voice recog. works... so why's is so horrible on the G1.
Not only that, you can't call without pressing buttons and viewing the screen display on the G1.
Anyways, for starters, I hope Cupcake fixes the lousy voice recognition.

yeah, i thought my phone was broken when i would say something like "call tony" and it would come back with the options of dialing like 10 random phone numbers(not even numbers from my contacts.. literally.. random... numbers). but i got a replacement phone(for a different reason) and sadly thats just how bad it is
That is the least of my worries....

I mentioned this right after the phone came out and was nearly forum-lynched for criticizing the almighty G1..
truth is, the voice dialing sucks.
I havent used it in forever, since it barely works- tried it again the other day while i had my hands full.. didnt work then either.
would be great if they fixed it.
I dunno, it's mostly worked for me, maybe 80%, maybe a little more. My old WinMo handsets, using Microsoft's Voice Command (what they based SYNC on) were pretty good, maybe 70-80%, but were more flexible and provided more voice navigation than my G1. I could execute arbitrary commands, start up my music player and select songs, artists, etc, all via voice.
Clear ennunciation didn't seem to matter all that much on WinMo but it seems to matter more on my G1
