I imagine the cunningly named app "Bluetooth File Transfer" on the Market can transfer files over Bluetooth.

You can't currently do this without an app on Cupcake (1.5) or Donut (1.6).

If you don't know what Rooted means then your phone probably isn't rooted, unless you bought it second hand.

"Rooted" just means you've done a hack to get Super User access on your phone - this is called Rooting your phone. Root is the old name for the administrator (super user) account on Unix and Linux machines.

Unfortunately, most people incorrectly use this term to describe installing custom firmwares (home-brew versions of Android, such as Cyanogens). While rooting is required to install custom firmwares, as normally the phone prevents any non-official firmware being installed and having root access allows you to be boss and force the issue, it is not the same thing at all.

I pushed a file earlier today from my Mac to my G1 with BT. I am running 4.25. Apple's BT file transfer utility dumped it on the root directory of my SD card.

Don't know if anyone is reading this any more but I can't find the "the cunningly named app "Bluetooth File Transfer"" anywhere on the android market place. is there a successor? I can download from some sites apparent just with my PC, but that wont let me get it to my android,

Any other places like the android market I might find it?

    Thanks, D_

When I search for "bluetooth" in the Market app, it's the 6th hit you get.

Try scanning its QRCode with the Barcode scanner app:

You can find more info about the app here: http://www.androlib.com/android.appl...eftp-qAFE.aspx

    Thanks much for the reply.

Thats weird, my "bluetooth" sixth find down is a "valentine radio" . Am I on the same Market place? I'm on the default "android market" place. Also, I am on RC29 and (can't go any further toward root).

I also don't see any bar-code scanner anywhere in the apps. I also cant find anything useful looking on "android market" . Sorry this stuff is pretty new to me.

    Thanks again,

Developers can limit the availability of their apps by paid/free, location (country), and version. As you're on such a low version of Android, you probably can see 99% of the apps on the Market, as nearly all are now only available for version 1.5 and above of Android.

There is no way around this. Your only option to get these apps are to update to a newer version of Android.
