Did you try with just the headset plugged into the phone? If not then try the adapter with another phone, and see if it's completely dead.
I never rooted my phone, and received the cupcake update on my ADP1 two days ago. Now neither of the audio ports on my HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter work. Anyone else having problems with audio adapters and cupcake?

Thanks for your reply. The HTC Multifunction Audio Adapter lets me plug a standard set of headphones into the ADP1. So I cannot just plug the headset into the phone as you suggest. I can, however, attempt to plug in the headphones that originally came with the phone. I plan to do that when I return home from work.
I also do not have another phone to test the adapter with, but I do have another adapter to test. I however doubt the adapter has malfuctioned. I did see on the XDA forum that someone else has had this problem.
Other people have reported issues with this.
The stock usb to eadphone jack adapter that comes with the g1 does work however.
Also, the htc dual usb adapter does work as I have verified it with mine.
The only issue are the dual usb 3.5mm jack adapters. Those seem to be broken with the 1.5 release.
The stock one's dont work for me either. lol.

Dwang,
Thanks for the unfortunate news. I have an ADP1, not a G1, so I didn't receive a stock usb to earphone jack adapter. I only received a pair of headphones.
With respect to the dual USB adapter, are you talking about this thing? http://ep.yimg.com/ip/I/exchangecellular_2050_131553485 . It doesn't appear that I can connect a phone headset to it.
I need something that will accept both a 2.5" plug (for a phone headset) and a 3.5" plug (for audio). I wrote HTC and they wrote back to bounce me to T-Mobile technical support. I explained that I don't have a G1 and that the adapter is their product; we'll see what they have to say.
Andonnguyen, how have you solved the problem?
Bumping this post to see if this problem can be solved.
This is a known issue with JF1.5 ADP Rom. There are some workarounds, but unfortunately these require a second USB to headphone adapter. The fixes are to use a different ROM build or to do some file replacement.

I also have this problem - my HTC multifunction adapter stopped working after the cupcake upgrade.
