Delete emails on Gmail

I'm having problems deleting the emails from my phone. They go into the trash folder, but unable to clear out the trash. I have to get online on my laptop and sign on there and delete it there. Any suggestions on what Im doing wrong???

Why bother clearing out the trash? Do you know how much space you really have on Gmail? They will expire and delete themselves eventually... Don't worry about it

they automatically delete after a set timeframe.

i archive everything but spam personally.

Straight from the trash section in g mail off of my computer:

Empty Trash now (messages that have been in Trash more than 30 days will be automatically deleted)
