Some people have indicated that they thought so, but to be quite honest, I haven't seen anything that would have confirmed it in my opinion. I sure hope it is lighted as well.
I have seen a couple of videos on Youtube, but i cannot see anywhere nor anyone commenting if the keyboard actually lights up.
So can anyone confirm that?
It would be a real pain not to have a lid up keyboard at night.
In these images, it doesnt seem to
what say you ?

uh oh, that would stink. i cant imagine they'd FUBAR with that...
Could someone with one comment? I haven't seen an HTC phone in a while that didn't. I'd hope that the G1 would.
Well, neither of the manuals discuss it at all, so no confirmation or denial there.

yah im gonna be so pissed if it doesnt. I guess then someone can develop the touch screen keyboard and you will have to use that at night
It was confirmed here by a user that the keys are backlit:

G1 is so good, they ought to make it a vitamin!
well i did some digging around the internets and i found this http://code.google.com/android/reference/android/os/PowerManager.html
its for the android software not the g1 alone but it says something about power management and controlling the keypad light
