BTW havent you heard of Patent Pending??? So even if the patents are pending other companies can not come out with new technology to which have similarities to the claims on the application or else once the patent have been approved by PTO then they would have lawsuits up the ass!!!

All I'm saying is that the G1 is INDEED HARDWARE capable of Multi-Touch and can NOT be utilize do to the "patents pending" by Apple. All you need is software anyway to make it work. Moreoever, the application filed to PTO is more than likely to be passed anyway...
read the thread. It's not about patents. It's about hardware that is installed.

Go to the links that have been included in several posts. Learn about Synaptics TouchPads, the inner workings of the touschscreen.

    Geesh.

they should just call it "poly-gesture" and just include it in the next update. but if they use that i need to get paid, lol.

Still have to disagree. First I'd say the examples you give are not very good analogies, first off, the TV is a large piece of hardware. The EDTV/HDTV is more in line with input connectors rather than what a screen can display. MOst "modern" flat TV's can display 720 lines of resolution. That doesn't mean they can just turn a switch and make them HD. It means it is harder to make a screen that COULDN'T display 720 lines than just to not offer the connections/converter so you have to pay more for the HD version.

I would also venture to say that you Samsung doe not have the internal hardware to convert an HD signal, even though it could display 720p. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Overclocking is unrelated here. Yes, they back off on speed to keep at a safe temp. and extend life of product. Throttling a processor is completely different than the underlying command controls of a Synaptics Touch surface.

Synaptics offers a more expensive underlying technology that allows for multi-touch interface. Since the primary OS on the phone did not include the functionality, they did not contract the additional cost of the additional technology.

It comes down to this. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm trying to explain how it is.

If you don't believe me, contact HTC or Synaptics.
HAHHA.. Well please lets not get started with AV and CPU's because I'm old have a vast knowledge of these things.

My analogies are inline because, Samsung DO build them this way for cost purposes because all they need to do is enable or disable the CHIP.

The processors are tested rigorously to test its capacity or threshold and then chosen which processors in the batch that would be set at higher speeds or lower speeds. Again, that’s why you would see when they would sell CPUs to include the batch # which is important to show the buyer.

I can go on and on but I'm at work at the moment.

I'm fairly old, but not old enough. My first computer was a Commodore and I ran a Wildcat! BBS on a 300 baud modem a decade before the internet existed.

But i know some older folks were back in the day when the hardware was being developed and that's not me.

Though you may be right about those technologies, it is not this technology. If the EGR is not set for multi-touch, it cannot just be "turned on"

    See Vincent's explanantion here:

So back to the patent issue, I'm curious as to why Microsoft can add multi touch gestures to their upcomming "Windows 7" without fear of lawsuits from Apple yet everyone here is under the assumption that Google didn't implement it because of the same patent issue.

There is no patent issue. It was a business decision. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who comment on patents who know nothing about patents, prosecution of patents, or the law behind all this. One of those guys even had the audacity to ask me whether I have heard of pending applications. It's self-claimed know-it-alls that are perpetuating the myth. If you are interested, check out some of my postings on this subject. I have commented on the patent aspects at length already. If you want a short summary, check out my thread here:
