G1 not automatically updating software

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my phone in the bath. It worked but had to reset to factory settings, only thing was it went back to version 1.0 It wouldn't upgrade to 1.5 so called T-Mobile who said it may have internal damage so sent it to my insurance company who say they've repaired it. Only thing is it's still on 1.0 and has been switched on for two days now.

Should I send it back to the insurance company or wait? Could there have been more damage then they suspected?

Anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

you will have to update it manually . from 1.0 its not going to go to 1.5 or 1.6 . im not at my laptop to give you a link to it , maybe you can search for it or someone here would be nice enough to give you a link or two . or you can follow the link in my sig , root your phone and put cyanogenmod on your phone . good luck !

Rooting the phone isn't an option. This would invalidate my warranty and insurance. If need be I'll tell them it's still faulty and need a replacement.

try to update manually , it doesnt root the phone . download the 1.5 file , put it on the main part of the sd card , rename it update , power off the phone , power on pressing the homebutton and power button at the same time(keep pressing the home for 5 more seconds) , press alt+l when you see the exclaimation point , press alt+s to update , then reboot . easy . after you have 1.5 , do the same for 1.6 . you will have an updated phone .
