Hi everyone,
I have a wonderful G1 that i acquired with out a T-Mobile contract (credit crunch etc, you know what i mean). Anyway, i got it unlocked and i'm currently using my 3 mobile sim (3G) for voice and data. Everything works, internet, voice etc,
However, when using google maps, it wont display any maps, just the blue and white grid. GPS finds my location, with a nice blue circle, but there's no data underneath it. As internet is working ok and there's no problems getting to any website, i'm at a loss to figure out what the problem is.
can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Thanks
Neiko
If your map mode is Satellite, have you tried zooming out, as your curent location may have a poor level of detail in Google Maps. Alternatively try changing the Map Mode to 'Map'
Hi, yes I've tried zooming in and out and changing from map to satelite but it makes no difference, it knows where I am no problem, just won't display any map data that should be there. I am puzzled, the only thing I can think of is that t-mobile and google have something set up so that google maps only loads data from their servers to a g1?
I live in the UK, sorry I forgot to mention that.
That's not the problem, because Google Maps works just fine on WiFi.

Hi,
Right I managed to fix it, although the solution makes little sense, but here goes;
having tried to get Google maps working I decided to format the phone to see if that would fix the problem. However, just before doing this I thought I’d change the settings for the APN as I had to create a new one to work with the 3 mobile network, using the following config;
Name - three
Apn - three.co.uk
proxy - not set
port - not set
Username - not set
Password - not set
Server - not set
MMSC - not set
MMS proxy - not set
MMS port - not set
MCC - 234
MNC - 20
APN type - not set
Name - three mms
Apn - three.co.uk
proxy - mms.three.co.uk
port - 8799
Username - not set
Password - not set
Server - http://mms.um.three.co.uk@10021/mmsc
MMSC - not set
MMS proxy - not set
MMS port - not set
MCC - 234
MNC - 20
Now these setting work for data no problem (not tested the MMS as I don’t use it much), but still no Google maps. So I just changed the MNC value to 40, waited for a bit and still nothing. So I preceded to the format screen etc, then I notice the 3g data bar at the top. so I quit the format screen, not having formatted the phone, open Google maps and bingo it's working! But now web browsing won’t work! arrrrgggg. changed the setting back to 20 and everything’s working again, web browsing, Google maps and stuff.
now I’m sure someone’s who's more tech that me with these things can explain it, but I thought I’d explain what I did in the off chance it helps someone else.
Thanks
Neiko
