Google phone costs $144 in materials
LONDON (Reuters) - The first phone to be built on Google's Android operating system, which T-Mobile is selling for $179 in the United States, costs $144 for the components and materials, research firm iSuppli said.

so basically, they're a firm that "guesstimates" and has it published in public news...

But they use the MOST money for the 8GB storage, but that is just stupid. What happens when the 8GB runs out? Buy a new phone? HTC saves money by putting in a sd card slot, and it makes it even better allowing 1GB expansion, 2GB expansion, 4GB expansion and so on, we are to expect 32GB even!. Hell - 16GB SD CARD IS $30 OMG. It costs $100 extra to get the 16GB iphone over the 8GB iphone
Just like most companies, they don't make much money on hardware. Game consoles (although very highly priced) money comes from games. Printers, where most money comes from ink... the list goes on
