Default How long has Google been working on Android?

I thought I read somewhere that Google has been working on the Android OS for a few years now? I'm just wondering why it seems like a lot of things don't work? And why this OS still looks like it's in Beta? I'm not bashing the phone/OS, I even preordered one, and it should be in today. Just something I was wondering about.

I have logged more than 8 hours of continuous use and I haven't found anything that didn't work.

    Tell me more.

Seriously, I've been on the phone almost non stop (except for a few hours of sleep) since yesterday morning and have had zero problems.

I thought I read that Google Docs or Google Reader(I dont even use those things) dont work? And that the GPS and compass are quirky. No video playback or recorder? And other things that I read will be fixed by "updates" or 3rd party developers. This is all from what i've read, I guess i'll find out for myself when I get it today.

Look "Ultra Spikey" (Thinking: what kind of name is that?) everything you heard was partially true, but the whole truth is that the GoD PhonE works phenomenal!! and 3rd party developers already created video record capability (Camline) www.sadko.com and etc. So relax "bro" (Thinking: hopefully this is a guy) and enjoy the new wave of technology in the makeing!

    To answer the OPs question:

"In July 2005, Google acquired Android, Inc., a small startup company based in Palo Alto, CA."

lol.. you gotta love it ... Starts a thread to bash and talk sh#t about the phone, which he doesn't even have, and uses "I thought I read" as justification.
