HTC hero Terms
I haven't been on xda-developer in a while (big mistake i guess) and the latest rom that everyone and thier mother are foaming at the mouth over is the HTC Hero Mod for the G1. There are some new features with this HTC hero build from people modding them that i really dont know what they mean and i was wondering if anyone can clear this up for me

This is just the name of the HTC keyboard.

This is basically a home replacement apk that only works with hero and make the UI look very nice, heres a video.

This is the apk used for HTC sync. You use this to sync you pc email and contacts to your g1. Many people (including myself) dont use or need this. Many tend to take it out.

The Dalvik VM is the Java-like virtual machine that runs Android applications. It sounds like the 'Ion' release is merely an updated (hopefully improved) release of the VM, much like Sun releases a Java 5.0.16 VM that has performance enhancements.
A wrapper around dexopt, source is available here. "dexopt" is a Dalvik EXecutable optimizer. Think of a .dex like a Java .class file that's not compatible with any other virtual machine.
IME == Input Message Engine. As of 1.5, anyone is able to create and distribute their own IME. The default IME is the soft/virtual keyboard that pops up when you touch an input box. This HTC IME could be used instead of the stock virtual keyboard.
