Default Moved SD Cache to SD...working

After using the telnet to get root, I changed my browser cache to the SD card with these instructions:

    http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4851

It seems to be working fine, so I won't have to delete the cache all the time to save space (and my browser will always work faster since it won't have to load from scratch so often).

When someone trys the apps to SD card, let me know. I'll go third.

This sounds pretty cool, but i wonder what will happen when the patch to fix root comes out. Will it revert this back or cause issues with your browser after? Try taking your SDcard out and running the browser...does it crash or just redirect it back to the internal memory?

will these changes revert back or cause any problems if you do this and then install an OTA update?

To answer the OTA update question.....

    No!

At anytime you can go into the Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and hit Clear Data and it will remove the "symbolic link" and everything will go back to normal.

    Already did it once.

So the update may take away your change, but don't see how it could stop your browser from working.

But it is my understanding that the only thing the "fix" will do anyway is close the "hole" so you won't be able to telnet in anymore (i.e. make any more changes).

And once again, even if they do that...and you decide you don't want to use your SD card , you can "Clear Data" and go back to normal.

The only thing that might be funky (and I won't try) is if you didn't hit "Clear Data" (i.e. kept the symbolic link) and changed SD Cards.

Then it is linking to a web cache folder that doesn't exist. It might not like that.

What is this "Clear Data" that you mention? When I go to "Manage Applications" all I get is a list of all of my installed apps. Pressing the menu button only gives an option to sort this list, so I don't see what you mean. Also, I wonder how delivering an OTA will be able to look through the entire file system to look for any changes that might have been made, to include the addition of symbolic links. I sort of think we may be safe from OTA's. However, it is certainly possible that G releases "fixes" that look for certain popular "user patches" that we may have done, if they don't like the, and possibly revert them to some other condition.

Tap the Browser app listing and it will take you to info about the app to uninstall and clear data.

Many apps have the clear data which clears the cache and frees up some room.

On some games it's saved games, so you might have to start at level one when you clear data though.

If it still works after you get the update then please repost as I think there will be a lot of interest here. I'll try it as soon as I hear back thanks!

I will definately post what happens after the update.

I hope I am posting it from my phone instead of from my computer with a brick in my pocket
