    Question Moving Contacts

    Quick albeit foolish question.

I have around 300 contacts in my sidekick LX, and Im wondering, do I need to either transfer all to my SIM card (which only holds 250), or write them down in my computer somewhere, or is there some sort of way where the G1 can simply 'discover' my contacts (as opposed to importing them from the SIM card, since I dont think the SIM card lets me store multiple entries (ie, address, home/work/mobile numbers, emails, ect) in a single sim entry)?

somehow i feel that i should know better...

If you have Windows, I recommend downloading Intellisync through your Desktop Interface inside MyT-Mobile.

It costs $10, and will sync ALL of your SK data into your Microsoft Outlook (or similar program) on your computer.

Once it syncs in, you'll be able to export it all to GMail Contacts and Google Calendar.

    @uga.buga:

Simply create the account and log in.

Once inside, click the "Contacts" link on the sidebar at the left of your screen, below the folder menu.

Add contacts and your ready to rock and/or roll.

I already added all my contact to my gmail to prepare for my phone's arrival lol

Yeah, the 3 days following my pre-order, I went into my gmail contacts and made sure everybody had names, numbers, emails, address, IM SNs, etc... it took a while... but I'm OCD when it comes to my phone, so it had to be right...

and yes, it took 3 days.

I think transfering to sim card is easy... I checked the emulator and there is an option to sync from sim card (Sim Contact Importer)

Contacts >>> Menu >>>Sim Card Importer

You may have to do it twice since the sim holds only 250 contacts

It may be easy, but my past experiences with SIM contacts suck... but maybe its just me

For example, most phones allow you to have 1 name with 2 numbers, an email address, etc... all under one name. However, on a SIM card, you can't do this. So, when you transfer your numbers to the SIM, they get coppied as FNAME LNAME/h or /w or /m for home, work, or mobile, or whatever... and you can't have email addresses coppied, etc... So it makes for horrible times when you transfer them back to a phone, from the SIM.

But thats just my problem... maybe Im retarded and do it wrong... every time... for the past 10 phones ive had...

Do your phone have bluetooth...if so...use bluetooth to bluetooth.
Why is everyone running to gmail to move your contacts if your old phone have bluetooth.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe your best bet would be to go into Gmail and make new contacts for all of your entries. It would take an extraordinary amount of time, but it will make your phone contacts better organized because of it.

Question: I have contacts saved on my G-Mail, and contacts on my SIM (some that are in G-Mail, and some that aren't.) I know that when I add a new contact on my phone, it automatically updates on G-Mail and visa versa. However, the question I have is upon initial setup will the contacts that I have in both G-Mail and my SIM card duplicate on my new G1 and G-Mail? After reading what I wrote I realize it doesn't make much sense, so here is an example... Say I have John Q as number 555-555-5555 on my SIM, and on G-Mail I have John Q as JohnQ@gmail.com with phone number 555-555-5555. Will the G1 and G-mail recognize this as the same contact and integrate the two of them, or will I have duplicate entries? Not sure if that helped clear up the confusion or simply made it worse. Any help would be wonderful!

It will make two entries. The only time that I did not notice this happening was when I had a phone entry and gmail entry that had the same email address listed. Two contacts cannot have the same email address. You will have to delete one of them.

Another thing that I did when transferring phone entries was create a .csv file in excel. When importing to gmail you can have the option of creating a group. I named this imported group after my phone. Then when editing in gmail, I only pulled up that group to get in order then looked at entire contacts list to weed out the duplicates.
