Default New SDHC card; Won't Pass Android Boot screen

    Hi,

I am not sure where exactly this post would go under (either software or hardware), but in any case, I'm having a bit of trouble with my G1.

It's a regular, non-rooted phone with the standard 1GB Micro SDHC card. It works perfectly fine. I recently bought a new 16gb Class 2 SanDisk Micro SDHC Card. I shutdown the phone and replaced the 1gb with the new 16gb Micro SDHC Card. Then when I went to reboot it, it flashed the G1 letters like usual. It then proceeded to the "ANDROID" screen where it flashes the letters. It is not going pass this screen. It is getting hunt at this screen and won't fully boot up. I cannot even shut it down by press and holding the power button. I've done a hard shutdown by taking out the battery and trying again, and the problem persists.

I searched similar posts but couldn't really find anything. I tried doing a "firmware re-flash" but I seem to be unable to do it. When I press and hold MENU + Power Button, it boots up to the ANDROID screen and gets hung as usual.

If anyone has any idea, suggestions, or could provide any help at all, it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Amit

I don't know if you did this already, nor do I know if it will help but try putting your old 1gig back in your phone. I am no expert on G1s but I do believe that when you get your phone back up and running, you can easily swap SD cards by going to Settings > SD Card & Storage> Unmount SD card, pop the tiny cover, and swap them. See if it helps by swapping your SD cards..thats all I can think of

Remove the SD card, boot as normal, then stick it in. Inside Android, go to settings, SD card and storage then format it.

Hopefully that will solve the problem

I'm unsure as to why having it in would stop it from booting (unless the SD card is marked as bootable, but I would think Android would ignore that), but I expect if it's new then it will need formatting... so see if that fixes it.

I am unable to get pass the ANDROID boot screen at all, so I'm unable to even get to the SD options. I've tried booting it with the 16GB, the 1GB, and with no Micro SDHC card. Every time I turn it on, it stalls at the ANDROID screen. Has this phone become a brick ? Is there anyway I can it working again? (perhaps do a complete factory reset?) It has been less than a year, so I imagine it still under warranty. I may have to do that. If that's the case, I'm truely disappointed in the quality of the G1.

Try holding down Home and pressing power on. Go from there.

I doubt that your problem has anything to do with your sd card. Do a hard reset by pressing home + power. The alt + L, then alt + w.

Pressing home + menu boots you into safe mode. In your case, that wouldn't work.

I did a factory reset, and that worked! Unfortunately, now I have to re-configure my phone completely... all my settings, market apps, etc. Oh well.

    Thanks for your help!
