I know, I know... it isn't THAT big a deal, but I just don't understand their reasoning. As a T-Mobile Dash user, I have attempted to use the ExtUSB adapter with my headphones but just couldn't deal with it as it proved un-sturdy and simply a hassle. I was hoping to replace my MP3 player with the G1 but I guess that won't be the case. I just don't understand why they wouldn't incorporate the traditional audio jack when most of their new phones have it.
Not a detterent from me getting the phone but definetely a dissapointment.
It's HTC, I think that they think since they make such awesome phones that they can get away with this. I don't really use my phone as an "ipod" anyways so it doesn't matter to me much, but it would've been nice. At least it's not a 3.5mm jack...but recessed so most headphones can't plug into it like with the 1st gen iPhone.

They probably figure they'll get some headphone sales out of it. You could always go with some Bluetooth headphones/speakers.

I, for one, will be trying to use the G1 with a clunky adapter. I hate carrying multiple items. That was what I loved during the short time I owned an iPhone, it was a great mp3 player and a decent phone. I decided I would rather a great phone and a decent mp3 player though.
The iPhone was awesome, but I have to have a full keyboard. I hated typing on the iPhone. Everything else was top notch IMO.
I don't mind carrying a phone and my ipod, it doesn't bother me that much.

I agree. I have to have a hardware keyboard. The virtual keyboard was very nice when typing a quick message with one hand, but when writing emails or long texts it just wasn't working for me. The lack of copy/paste and the lack of the ability to have multiple programs open also killed it for me.
I don't know what's so "clunky" or ridiculous about the adaptor. It's not like you have to leave it dangling off your phone all the time or carry it in its own special case... Just stick it on the end of your headphones and you're done! It'll stay there for storage, it'll roll up with them... Hell, I might even throw a little shrink wrap tubing on it and make the bond semi-permantent/invisible save for a small bulge in the wire. Ni biggie, right? And they already have them for sale in the store here! How's that for service!
