Default Phone Call and Applications Multi-Tasking

Does anyone know if it is possible to use applications when using the phone features? I have the bad habit of continuing to browse the Internet on my laptop while half listening to people that call me on my cellphone. I was wondering if this would still be possible, or if the phone features take over completely when making or receiving calls.

I don't know for sure, but with all the focus on multi-tasking, I'm sure you'll be able to talk while browsing...if using wifi or 3g. If you're using voice, I don't think EDGE will work.

In the emulator available with teh SDK you can open up other programs while on a call. just press the home button while on the call screen. you can get back to the call screen from the pull-down tasks/notifications area in the top.

I'm not sure about data usage, on my MDA, EDGE disconnects when you get on a call, not sure if 3G will be different.

As this article mentions, qualcomm processor in the G1 is actually a multi core processor, with one core dedicated exclusively for phone operations. And with 3G, I'm pretty sure you can continue to use data while in the middle of the call, unlike GPRS. So, I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine, given that a tethering app is developed for it first

i don't know of any fon out there that allows u to still be on the web browser while on a fone call, i know the blackberry bold will allow u to use ur e-mail, while on a call. but i still don't know of any fone that will allow u to do that. i always thought u coudn't do it, since u can only use the signal for either one at a time.

Well the 3G and WIFI is a different frequency, so you should be able to use voice and data at the same time. EDGE uses same frequencies of voice so probably isn't possible.

You are correct. HSPDA supports data and voice at the same time. You can browse the web and talk to someone at the same time, as long as the OS supports it.
