With any luck- the phone will be launched and then the griping will begin en masse.
The most complained about things- and this seems like it could one of them- will hopefully get remedied with an OTA upgrade pretty quick
Bummer, that's really going to bother me. After a while it might get a bit annoying. Firmware/software update to fix this? Also grouping "IM/TEXT MESSAGES" by contact name?Making calls
One of the best things about the G1 is that it has a virtual dialer, so you can make all of your calls without having to slide the keyboard up. But there is one big annoyance. When you are on a call, and you have to pull the phone away from your face to enter a number, you have to press a button to wake the phone up, unlock it and then bring the keypad up. You could change the settings so that the screen wouldn't time out for a while, but that would drain your battery. When you are in a call on the iPhone and you pull the phone away from your face, the iPhone senses this and automatically wakes up the screen saving you the trouble of doing so yourself.
With any luck- the phone will be launched and then the griping will begin en masse.

IMO, that's a minor annoyance. Cell phones will never be perfect (especially right out of the box).
Wait a minute....
You can make PHONE CALLS on this thing????
whow!
Seriouisly, one gripe I remember hearing about the iPhone was that call quality was pretty bad. I've never owned one, so I don't know, but it does seem, from reviews, that call quality and even the speaker phone on the G1 is 1st rate.
Sometimes, the most basic things get overlooked.
Can you lock the phone so that no one can pick up your phone without putting in the lock pattern first??
