    Default Phonebook importing

When you power up your G1 for the first time, and sign into your existing gmail account. Does it import all your gmail contacts into your phonebook? I wanted to know if its okay to clear off all the contact on my sim card.

I just posted this a few minutes ago:

All of your Gmail contacts are immediately available on the phone upon first log-in. And whenever you create a new contact on the device it's automatically synced with your Gmail contacts and therefore immediately backed-up, so you never need to worry about losing your contacts if you lose or break your phone.

I would keep your sim card somewhere safe, you never know if you ever get your email hacked into or something happens, and theirs always a chance something can happen. Great thing about Gmail, you can export all your contacts!
