I have tried setting up 3 different pop email accounts and everytime the phone gets either stuck on "checking outgoing server settings" and will sit there forever OR says "Sorry! The application email (process com.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
All the setting are correct. One of the pop email, is for my business and know it should work, it goes through the incoming mail part with no problem.
Anyone else have a problem with this? I tried 3 different pop emails (I set these up for clients) and none will get past this point. Talk about major dealbreaker if I cant get this to work.
Also what gives with you not being able to get hotmail? I know your supposed to pay 20 bucks or whatever, but my blackberry never had a problem. I can live without this, but someone needs to write a program to get around this asap.
sorry to kind of thread jack but would school email be pop3 or imap?
You know you could not hijack a thread just as easily.
And I am sure it depends on the school.

I didn't have any problems setting up pop email. I set up two other gmail accounts super easy, and then a third which is an email address I have through another domain and neither of them experienced any problems.
Though the latter, non-gmail, pop account does not give me notifications of new email. ):

Try rebooting the phone?
Turn it off, let it sit for a minute, then turn it back on.
Also, is it happening when you connect over WIFI? or 3G? or EDGE? or all?

I have rebooted a couple of times to no avail. I am connecting with 3g and edge, it usually goes back and forth. I havent tried wifi.
Also I just checked my tmobile account and I am still listed as having the blackberry plan. They were supposed to change the plan, but I guess they are busy. I am changing it now and hopefully this will fix my problem.
I also have been unable to connect to a pop email server. I don't have 3g here so I'm connecting via edge. I was able to setup a gmail account with out problem, but so far no luck with my ISP's POP server.
Okay. Tmobile customer support just told me that it will take up to 2 days to get the internet "fully functional" on all the new phones. So I will patiently (not really) wait a couple days with no email and try again.
By the way this particular customer service G1 rep was kinda retarded, and I knew way more about the phone that her. But I digress.
Bottom line. Gay.
Not sure it's the same problem or not. But I tried setting up my ISP's pop email on the phone about 5 times with a similar error before I realized I had to disable 'requires login' on the SMTP step. Once I did that it worked fine. Good luck.
