It's to be considered without confirmation at this point, but we all know it's true.
The HTC magic is coming to T-Mobile branded as the G2.
I had two T-Mobile CSR reps at 611 tell me of the impending G2 announcement, saying the phone was "all but official." We knew it would make it state-side eventually, since Google used a T-Mobile USA demo unit during one of their presentations at MWC.
To my knowledge, this is one of the first times I've heard the G2 mentioned from a T-Mobile employee, so an announcement may be coming soon.

Susan, what is it that you like so much about the HTC Magic that you like so much that you want it compared to the G1? Just curious...

From what I've heard its pretty much the same hardware wise, just without a keyboard. Whats so exciting about that?
wonder what kind of implications this has on finally getting us a virtual keyboard
They're pretty similar, granted! But they aren't the same.
The Magic does sport the following "upgrades:"
More ROM (512 MB, up from 256)
Larger battery (1340mah, up from 1150)
G sensor instead of motion sensor (don't ask me!)
Internal GPS antenna (I believe this is better than aGPS)
Slightly smaller and lighter
Now whether this is "magical" or not, I can't say. But for some it might be. I can say that after I look into the GPS differences some more that the upgrade might be "magical" for me! Maybe...

JaceMan pretty much summed it up for me. In addition to that, I am not the typical girly, girl. I actually am not overly fond of carrying a purse, I find it gets in the way. So, a great deal of the time, I pocket my G1. Being a "lady", I really don't like a big bulge of a phone in my pocket. So I am definitely looking forward to the sleeker G2.

more rom? does this mean an App2SD mod isnt as obligatory anymore as it is today? that would be a good thing.
No, unfortunately it doesn't really mean that. Although, after they get the apps to SD thing ironed out... I would actually be one who prefers having phones with "small storage" and relying on flash memory anyway. The whole idea behind having a phone with "plenty of onboard storage" actually makes me laugh. Plenty for one may be nowhere near enough for another, and applications continually get larger and more robust all of the time.
Remember when 64kB was more than enough memory for anyone.
Yeah, so for me relying on external sources of memory is the best way (that I can think of) to "future proof" your phone. On that note, it will be even better when we can not only install apps to external storage, but when we can use use flash memory as RAM for our phones too.
Ah... *starts daydreaming*
