I keep getting this error, it says to delete some messages to make more room, but whenever I click on it to do it, it takes me to a screen that just says "refreshing" indefinitely.
Anyone have any solution, it's starting to get annoying.
Do you know approx how many messages you had on there befroe it started telling you the card was full. This is something I hated about my old phone b/c once there was around 170 messages(inbox and sent) then I would be completely full and have to delete.
Surely a phone this advanced can store more than this many...?

not the g1's fault, the sim card can hold only 30 messages... in all the mess of launching and creating this phone, i could honestly see them passing by this
Buy the rumor, Sell the news.
All The Txt message are save on the phone not the simcard. So thats good new.
Well here is what I have done few minutes ago, I think it should work.
From homescreen/desktop, click the arrow to open applications window and go to 'messaging'. When in messaging, hit 'menu' button and select 'settings'. It will show you SMS settings and MMS settings. Under SMS settings you will find one called 'manage SIM card messages'. Click on that. You will be able to see some messages on your SIM card. Surprisingly on mine I could only see 5 messages altho I had about 200 messages on my old phone which i pulled the SIM card out of.
Now you can hit 'menu' button again and choose delete messages. It will delete them all.
Since I only did this few minutes ago I dont know yet if it worked or not. Lets hope it did and I don't see that annoying "sim card full" message again...
Also Im hoping future messages are stored on the g1 itself... I cannot find any option that lets you pick where you want to store messages..
I have recently had the same error on my G1; what I found was this.
After deleting all of my SMS threads the phone; it still reported SIM full errors.
So I placed my SIM into an old nokia I have. The only messages that showed up were t-mobile messages; things like "thank you for your payment: your payment is over due: etc.. you know yadda yadda yadda, stroke stroke...!"
Once I deleted all of those and placed the SIM card back in my G1 I was pissed since I have just deleted all of my last 4 months worth of text conversation, and now everything is ok!
I think we should look into the difference between carrier messages and normal SMS.
As a side note: I don't know if I had deleted my carrier messages in the past.

Let me rephrase this for people who may not have high scores in reading and comprehension.
Check and delete your carrier based messages before deleting the texts from your girlfriend!
As far as I can tell the carrier based messages are stored on the SIM and normal (i.e. your GF/hooker) are stored elsewhere.
