Thread: software updates?

  1. #1

    Question software updates?

i was just wondering how they would handle the updates, because i know with the iphone you just go to itunes and the updates are their and you just click download.

but how will they do it with the g1? does it need to be connected to a pc or will the updates be done over the air? and i'm assuming if its done over the air they'll alert us, letting us know when there's an available update

I think it would most likely have to be done when it's connected to a PC, thats my guess. But honestly i don't know i couldn't tell you the FACTS. I'm curious myself. Out of the box, the phone definitely has some kinks that need to be worked out with a simple firmware update. SDK v1.0?

im guessing ota's since there is no itunes like program that's official or maybe just like in a windows mobile phone a program to check for available updates or let you know that there is an update.

I believe I read somewhere that the suftweare updates will occur over the air.

    Not everyone has WiFi
You may have to log into Tmobile and download an update?
I believe I did that once with The Dash

over the air as quoted per some articles...

typically OTA updates will be using a trickle method of distrobution, so expect some people to possibly get the update weeks or so ahead of some people...

The Market is online and I believe the change is occuring on the back-end with the store and applications themselves. The update should be invisible to most folks. If you haven't downloaded anything (which you can't without a device) when the update occurs, you won't even notice. For others who have, we should have to redownload the apps.
