Just got this email from Tmobile:
"Firstly, I must apologise for the delay in coming back to you. It took a little longer than anticipated to obtain our full position in the case but I wanted to make sure we came back to you with everything rather than bit by bit.
We always welcome feedback and questions on our products as there is no better way to ensure we give you, our customer the best possible service we can.
So, in answering your concerns, I just wanted to give you a brief background on T-Mobile and the Android software.
Android is the name of the mobile software platform developed by the open handset alliance (OHA). The reason for all the excitement is its ability to provide an open architecture where the developer community can create applications using the Android SDK. These can then be distributed onto products like our T-Mobile G1 and any other mobile that supports the Android software through the Android Market
The OHA have taken this ability another step further through the Android Open Source Project. Developers interested in submitting ideas for improvements to Android software, separate to building applications to feature in the Android market, can get access to the source code from
http://source.android.com/ and use this forum to submit ideas to be considered for future over the air software updates.
As you know the T-Mobile G1 is the first phone in the UK to be based on a version of the Android software platform. As an official developer, you're able to build applications and then make them available through the Android Market, but in order for us here at T-Mobile to provide the best experience and service for all of our customers we have to fully test and certify the software that appears on the G1. This is the only way we know that if something goes wrong with the software, we can discuss and validate any warranty conditions there might be. It was during test for the second version of the software that a temporary bug in the launch software was noticed, which meant that the source code on the G1 phone software was open. This bug was then fixed as soon as we could with a patch being sent on the 14 November.
As you'll appreciate software is always changing and from time to time Google will send updated versions of the Android software direct to the G1, these updates feature improvements to your overall experience. These improvements are based on feedback from the developer community and customers in general. So any further feedback and ideas on how we can improve this software are always welcome. Your ideas should be submitted through the site mentioned above to ensure these are considered.
We appreciate that you're part of the developer community and want to make changes to the software directly on your mobile. Google have devised a product that does just this called the Android Dev Phone 1, you can find out more information about this on their website at
http://code.google.com/android/dev-devices.html ).
I hope you can see and understand why we must take the steps we do in protecting all of our customers', but please do give me a call or drop me a line if you would like to talk through anything else.
Kind regards
Leah Young
Directors' Office Co-ordinator
T-Mobile (UK)"
I'm not going to bother to correct her on the technical errors in the email

so the bad news is, we're stuck looking for a exploit/version of the DREAIMG.NBH that's older than the current release.
