    Default UMA/Hotspot@Home on HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1

With all the latest details coming out about the HTC dream, I am really looking forward to being one of the first people to preorder it on September 17th. Although, there is one big feature that seems missing from almost all details that have surfaced, UMA or Hotspot@Home. I receive absolutely no coverage inside my apartment, so this feature is quite cirtical for me.

To the cell technology gurus out there. Could you please tell me if UMA could be added later as a software update or if the phone has to have specific hardware to be UMA compatible? If it is the former, I will gladly wait for that or even think about developing it myself, but if it is hardware dependent, that'll be a big bummer for me and I will almost be heartbroken, given that I have been waiting for an Android phone since last October .

I hope so. Maybe someone could find this out. This is one of the main reasons for me getting the G1. There isn't much of a PDA selection of phones on T-Mo now that has UMA.
Oh and to answer the question as far as I know UMA is a hardware feature. So even if your phone has wi-fi it may or may not work with the UMA.

it appears there's no DUN and OBEX on bluetooth profile, nor A2DP

DUN means Dial Up Networking, can use phone as modem
OBEX means OBject EXchange, bluetooth file/contact transfer

T-Mobile Address Book which allows you to save your contacts on their server and upload them to a TAB compatible device instead of saving them to your SIM card or inputting them all again manually.
