I have been unable to play any mp3 file that I've downloaded through the Steel browser. The file shows up in my music, but the music app says the file is unsupported. These are standard DRM free mp3s. If I download them through the main browser, they show up and will play from my downloads menu, but I cannot get them to show up ANYWHERE else. No app recognizes it. Any ideas?
Have you checked the extension to make sure that they came through as MP3?

Yep, all .mp3.
Really strange. Have you tried downloading it to your pc then transfering to the sd card and trying to play it that way to see if it is just from the steel download or if it all mp3 files?

the mp3s included on the card will play fine and show up everywhere. Also, like I said, the ones downloaded through the default Android browser will play, but I just cant find them anywhere but in the downloads list in the browser. Any idea how I can find those?
Use a file manager App, I use Linda. If its in the downloads section, move them over to the music file. You can also use the USB cable to transfer them over. See if that works for you and then try playing them that way. If that does not work, maybe someone else has a better answer.

Unfortunately, I already tried using Linda. It didnt show up anywhere, downloads or otherwise.
Steel downloads the files into the /sdcard/steel/downloads directory. After the download it invokes the media scanner to ensure the files show up in the player. I have no idea why it wouldn't play if the file is not corrupt. Any chance you can provide a link to a file that doesn't play? If so, send it via PM,
Thanks,
Michael
