    Default Why pre-order?

First, to disclaimer, I've pre-ordered already because I have no self control on these things at all.

But my question is why are they pressing the pre-order opportunity by saying things like, "hurry... there are only 1,000 remaining for pre-order".
Aren't they going to be in stores on the same day as the day we'll receive shipment. Really, I'm not sure what the benefit of pre-ordering is. I did just because I'm a tech junkie, and I started getting the shakes as soon as I saw the little android on a real phone. But I probably would've been smarter to wait until the 22nd and tried the phone first-hand before buying.

Is there any benefit to pre-ordering?

Well, free shipping and it comes to your house I guess? But then again, I bet I could get to the TMobile store earlier in the day than UPS comes to my house!

I guess it's just about assurance you'll have it the first day no matter what, and if there are lines or shortages (which I doubt), you won't have to deal with it.

Just think about it from the viewpoint of the Nintendo Wii for example. Pre-order one you are guaranteed one on release. Dont preorder you may have to camp out to get one if they sell out. Which like DesignDawg I also doubt will happen.

My guess is that come the day it in stores, your FULL DISCOUNT price will be the $299 and the other price will now be $399. and no contract or anything $499. add taxes to those numbers.... big difference then the $179 i paid!

You can't preorder unless you're a post-paid customer. Prepaid, FlexPay, and SmartAccess customers cannot preorder.

You have to log in to get it, so it will ask for your phone number and password.

have to have a contract almost expired for cheap price... be a customer with a contract for 299. and i have heard when it hits stores, new customers can get it for the cheaper price. if the price doesn't go up. ur full discount might then be 299!

I was wondering the same exact thing, particularly because I wanted it in white. I just rushed to pre-order so I won't have to camp out or wait on a line during the day when I should be doing something more productive with my life. I initially thought the $179 price point was for pre-order only, and that it would be $199 on the release date (based on what all the bloggers were saying), but that obviously isn't the case. While all my friends will go pick up their G1's in white, early in the morning, I'll be looking out my window at the traffic, wondering where the UPS truck is. UPS usually delivers to my houe between 3 and 5 PM, so it will be a long day.

I called Tmo to cancel my pre-order once I realized all that, and they said I would have to wait until the phone comes, and then ship it back to the national returns center; and until that return is processed, I would have to pay full price if I walked into a store for G1. So I'm stuck with black, in large part due to my haste, and also as a result of Tmo's stupid decision not to put in out for pre-order.

Rather than put a damn headphone jack in teh phone, they worry about creating some false sense of exclusivity amongst consumers.

I just do not like going to the store (even Tmobile store in local) to get the phone. I tried once and it turned I got stuck with waiting for the phone a long time, canceling the whole thing after all and wasting my nerves and time for the good 4 weeks just because store ppl were too new and had no clue over stuff I am eligible to get - like discounts and stuff.
Once I call Customer Service - we understand each other much better. So, website OR Customer Service is much more convenient for me.
I do a lot of online shopping and I do not want to waste my time on something I can handle online

On the top of everything - I do not care about possible catch - I want my G1 delivered to me!
