Clearly there are limited widgets available, and there are many that current computer users would like to see transfered to our G1.
1. Weather - Instead of having to open up your shortcut to your weather monitoring app (and using up screen space for the shortcut), there needs to be a widget that would feed the info in and could have controllable update intervals. Complete it with little animated suns and rain clouds as time moves on.
2. A DIGITAL CLOCK for gods sakes. Customizable colors, 24hr/12hr, swap your time zones. Also needs to show the date, as it currently only appears if you select the activity/messages bar.
3. WIFI widet. Shows signal strength, network name, speed in out, etc. Similar widet could be used to show your 3G speeds.
4. System Info Widget. Gives me my actual battery %, instead of only seeing it when I plug in my G1 to charge. Also Displays memory left on internal/sd card.
5. Better Picture Frame Widget. I hate that I pick a nice picture and want to show someone the picture full size on the screen. I click on the little framed picture on the screen....AND IT OPENS MY PICTURES FOLDER! Have it link to the actual picture maybe??
6. Various Search Widgets - Yellowbook, maps, music, etc.
7. Music / Video Widget - (video - first we need flash to work on G1) - Link to an mp3 on web or sdcard with play/pause and drag to seek. I guess this could be implemented with a sturdy music play to come soon I hope...
As for video, it would be cool to have a window much like the photo picture frame, but was actually a flash/etc video waiting to be played. Tap it and it plays.
8. Sports Score Scroller - Streamed scores scrolling across a widget...NFL, NBA, etc.
9. Shortcut Quick Launch. As users become more familiar with their favorite apps and Icons, they will see that a 'home screen' cluttered with shortcut icons is messy, especially when you like your wallpaper. Create a larger box in which shortcuts can be created and are condensed. Select icon size, spacing in between, no titles, translucency, colors, etc. You could even select different images to use as the program icon. Essentially a box with links.
10. News Ticker? Headlines - pick your site. New lifehacker articles, torrents, music, etc.
Im sure more will pop into my head shortly after posting...
G1- Lets Keep This Android Going!
Weather would be very badass, I think they should copy vista as a template, and make those widgets, stock ticker also.
i like all of your ideas... would be great if we could even just get a few... and those have to be free... come on now. oh well...

Totally agree
Yea I agree with this. All of this. and for the weather widget, u short press it and it opens up a translucent black window with the 5 day forcast, then you can scroll thru different cities forecasts with a finger swipe and a long press on the forecast pop-up pulls up an over view of all cities current conditions.
"I'm shocked at the diversity of the people psyched for the G1. All different people united...under Android"
Instead of alot of these useless apps coming out people need to make widgets because the homescreen and use alot of work..........
it has a sweet battery indicator..make sure you have anycut make a new shortcut on the home screen then choose activity and click battery info..has batt level, health, voltage, temp and so on
I agree I love my widgets on my macbook I fond them very fun, usefull, lets get some of these bad boys rolling on our phones home pages![]()
Developers can not make widgets. There is not an SDK for widget development yet. Google will have to release this before people start making those.
