i had this old bbc acorn. no hdd.

it had floppy and cassette drives but mostly if you wanted to do anything you had to type out a book's worth of code. then of course you'd get to the end of the book and you'd gotten one character wrong so had to trawl through and find your mistake.

by the time 'pod' or 'pong' was up and running it was bed time, so i'd leave it on over night and hope like hell there wasn't a power cut

    TS 1000. You young folks....

GardenWife-I had an A1000,2000 and 3000. Apple implies that things like preemptive multitasking controlled by the OS, separate processors for video, and the ability for one program to script another (remember ARexx?) are new, but it ain't so.

My first computer was the first Toshiba portable back in 1984 called the T100. It ran CP/M and Basic, had two huge outboard floppy drives 5" and cost me over $2000.

A leading Edge, 15 inch color monitor, circa 1982 with a Panasonic near letter quality dot matric printer. Think the cost for the whole package was $2600.00. The thumbnail is a moded D the model M had 2 floppies.
From Wikipedia : The first known computer to be produced by Leading Edge is the Model M, released in 1982. By 1986 it sold for $1695 (US) with a monitor and two floppy drives. It used an Intel 8088-2 processor, running at a maximum of 7.16 MHz on an 8 bit bus, compared to 6 MHz for the IBM PC-AT on a 16 bit bus. The 'M' stands for Mitsubishi, their parts provider

+1 for the Timex Sinclair. Good times. my first animation was '\/' alternating with '/\' to look like a bird flying HA!!

hooked up to a TV, using cassette tapes to store data... hmm, 30 years later and my PC is once again hooked up to my TV as a monitor and I'm storing data on the same device as my music.

    whoah

I guess somethings never change... or they do drastically, but basically the idea is the same?

My first computer was... a Nascom 1 in 1972. It was a bare board computer that you assembled yourself from a bag of components supplied with the board. It was programmed in Machine Code that was hand assembled using a Z80 code manual. It took an awful lot of code to fill up the 8k of RAM that it came with.

Later, when I had loads of money to spare I upped the memory to 32k and bought a BASIC interpreter for it

It was to be another 13 years (1985) before Windows 1.0 was to arrive LOL But we had to make our way through CP/M before that

I Wish I Could Go Retro, My First Computer Was A 2003 Compaq. I Don't Know The Specs But It Was Pretty Good Until My Charging Piece Broke.
Android Vs. iPhone? We're Far From Equal, Cause Your Claims Of Being Better Are Very See Through And We Just "Rock" Like Guitars & Speakers.
