    Arrow T-Mobile G1 or AT&T Fuze?

My contract is coming up soon, and I've been eyeing these two phones for a long while now. They both are great phones, but they both also have major (at least to me) flaws that I may or may not be able to live with for the next two or so years.

The G1 has a capacitive touchscreen, which is a definite plus over the Fuze. I'm not the biggest fan of resistive touchscreens, which feel kinda cheap and not worth the price I would be paying. The Fuze, however, has a better feeling keyboard than the G1. TouchFlo 3D is cool and all, but it's gimmicky and I'd tire of it quickly. Android may be awesome, but it's not quite there yet. Would it be okay to jump on the bandwagon and hope that Google will take care of me (à la Microsoft and Zune firmware), or should I play it safe and use Windows Mobile, whose UI I may dislike but whose functionality is a little more rounded out?

(I'm your a-little-bit-above average consumer, so my needs aren't extravagant)

What are your thoughts on the Fuze versus the G1?

if the fuze is anything like the touch pro....looks similar judging from the pictures, i'd go with the g1. the touch pro feels awful in the hands, is rather small, and doesn't feel as well built.

The fuze really does feel bad in the hand! I was at radio shack, & the sales person was bragging about it, so I told him I had a G1. He said let's compare. So he pulled out the fuze and its just covered in finger prints & oil! I mean ALL OVER the phone! It looked terrible. The G1's screen just blew it away. I think the G1 doesn't get enough credit for its design. The only finger prints you get is on the screen which is easy to wipe off, but his fuze looked like he just dropped a transmission then talked on the phone for hours without washing his hands!

If you like a dying OS that is not particularly user friendly, the get the Fuze.

If you want to hot new OS that is extremely user friendly (yes, I know because I have a G1), get a G1.

Windoze Mobile sux. I will bet you money in a head-to-head, that the G1 will smoke the Fuze on Internet access speeds. I saw in one thread where some T-Mo employees put a G1 up against various smartphones, including BB, and the G1 smoked them all (always when on the same web access -- Edge or 3G).

i loved the G1 while i had it. I just think a few kinks needed to be worked out so i returned it -- i'm back with a Windows Mobile phone and it cant shake a stick at the G1's connectivity. web, email, chat youtube...all in your hand.

and if you use Gmail/gchat for everything...its even better

I was a Sprint user and avidly waiting for the Touch Pro; due to delays, it was released after the t-Mo G1. Out of curiosity I picked up a G1 to try out and went to a Sprint store a week later to look at the Touch Pro (before my 2 week T-Mo trial was up).

It took less than 5 minutes to realize how much better the G1 is than the Touch Pro- the G1 keyboard is far superior, running WM6.1 was VERY sluggish on the Touch Pro (maybe fixed with updates- which Sprint rarely releases) and it just felt cheap. I felt I would be downgrading from my former (Sprint) Treo 800w to the Touch Pro...

The Fuze is the GSM version of the Touch Pro; it has a little different form factor but it is still the same device.

I definitely am getting the same vibe from the Fuze as you guys; it's not at the same level of quality that the G1 is at.

The thing I'm probably most concerned about is whether or not my firmware will be rounded out will all its missing functionality through updates. (Can OtA really handle updates that size?) Is Google going to update Android for all the G1 users like Microsoft with its Zune firmware, or will we be left behind next year like Windows Mobile users with 6.0 who aren't allowed to update to 6.1?
